Families Rendered Homeless As The FCT Administration Carried Out Massive Demolition Of Structures

 Chinenye's Blog ~1 MIN READ~

So many families were rendered homeless by the demolition of over 349 structures at Lugbe-Across along Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport Road in Abuja.

The demolition act was carried out by the FCT Ministerial Committee on City Sanitation and was tagged '2021 Mother of Clean-ups'.

The demolition which lasted for over 7 hours started at Lugbe Across, Lugbe Berger, Lugbe Zone 5 and Car Wash.

Some of the victims expressed their hurt saying that they were not given adequate notice before the demolition exercise, they lamented over the destruction of their properties.

However, the Chairman of the team Ikharo Attah explained that the exercise was part of a routine culture by the Airport Road corridor in keeping the nations' capital clean.

He further said that the master plan for the area has been contravened by those in the area; where the fence line has been turned to motor parks, and car owners who parked their cars there pay the sum of N1000 on a daily basis.

"In line with town planning rules and to keeping the city clean and safe, we are not going to be deterred. This comprehensive clean up shows that the FCT administration is committed to keeping the city clean".

"One of the key issues is to keep the acceptable standard; If you are driving through the Airport Road what you see is not befitting. Abuja Environmental Protection Board is doing well by evacuating the heavy waste, there are dumpsites at the back of the villages, but some still come to the front to dump waste".

Ikharo Attah further emphasized that the demolition exercise was to ensure Abuja, especially along the Airport Road is maintained in line with the best practices of sanitation and orderliness.

I am simply a person who wants to make a difference in this world. The world should be better than I met it because of me!
