South Africa's highest Court ruled this decree on Tuesday after his continually blatant refusal to appear before a corruption panel looking into the heartbreaking financial scandal that tainted his administration which ran from 2009 - 2018
A 15 months imprisonment was hence ruled on the basis of court contempt.
Acting Judge Khampepe noted that Mr Zuma was served rightly as she prefers a society where the rule of law is shown deference. Jacob Zuma will be the first former South African President to be imprisoned.
South Africa's highest Court has given Zuma the grace period of 5 days to submit himself to a police station in his home town at Nkandla, KwaZulu-Natal province or in Johannesburg. Refusal to adhere to the courts order will incur his forceful arrest after another 3 days grace period.
Mr Zuma is persecuted separately for money laundering, racketeering, corruption, fraud from a deal with a French arms manufacturer which he allegedly took bribe during his time as Deputy President in 1999. The trail has continually been postponed
