Learning Your Teens Vocabulary

A vocabulary is the stock of words used by or known to a particular people or group of persons. It goes beyond just a stock of words as defined by the dictionary to mean the way a person understands and expresses himself/herself.

It should not come to you PARENT as a shock that your teen (and yourself inclusive) have peculiar languages which could differ from each other through which you express your individuality and self identity. It is your responsibility to make daily efforts to learn your teen's vocabulary. You cannot communicate effectively when all your teen hears when you speak is YOUR vocabulary (things you want and not what he/she wants).

Like every human being, your teenager has a language you must use to communicate effectively to him or her. To some, such vocabulary can be an act of kindness, a listening ear or just a shoulder to cry on. It's up to you to make deliberate decisions and take deliberate steps to learn this language, else you stand a great chance of loosing your teen to the "stranger" who perfectly speaks that language.

REMEMBER; Effective parenting is a deliberate, calculated and skillfully planned responsibility
